Scott Wilson is at the forefront of a generation of classical musicians who believe their art form has the potential to connect with a much larger audience. He envisions a paradigm shift, growing the art form from its current position at the fringe to one where classical music achieves a prominent and passionate audience.

It is Scott Wilson’s belief that classical music - some of the greatest music ever written - can be revitalised so that it can be experienced and enjoyed by far more people. This has become a central focus of his work and has led to him developing a podcast, writing a book, and contributing to articles on this subject. He has positioned himself as a leader who seeks a collaborative and integrity-driven approach with musicians, administrators, and audiences.

BOOK

Written over the course of several years, this book set out to find a way to communicate the value of classical music to new audiences. It became the blueprint for the A Thousand Pictures podcast and it provided the crucible within which Scott Wilson’s ideas about audience engagement for classical music took shape.

INTERVIEW

Scott Wilson has been interviewed twice by the Notes from the Podium journal. On this occasion he was interviewed on the subject of Audience Engagement. Using the orchestral pieces La Mer by Debussy and the Piano Concerto in G by Ravel as starting points, he discusses the responsibility of conductors to communicate the value of classical music to new audiences.

INTERVIEW

Opera Holland Park gave the UK premiere of Mark Adamo’s opera ‘Little Women’ in 2022. Following the performances, Scott was interviewed by Dr Hannah Baxter about the opera itself, the unique aspects of this particular production, the opportunity to work alongside a living composer, and also the challenges for a conductor when rehearsing and performing opera.

Scott Wilson’s enthusiastic and informative insights into familiar and beloved masterpieces is a welcome contribution to the demystification of classical music.
